Shinzo Abe, the former longest serving Prime Minister of Japan, was assassinated by a gunman, while he was in a campaign in Nara, Japan. He was 67.
Abe was rushed to Nara Medical University Hospital after suffering cardio and pulmonary arrest. The hospital announced his death shortly.
The shooting suspect is Tetsuya Yamagishi, a 41 year old unemployed man. The police said that the suspect has immense hatred towards a community which Abe was linked to.
He was born on 21st September, 1954 in Tokyo, Japan. His father was Shintaro Abe and his mother was Yoko Kishi.
Studied in Seikei University, and the University of Southern California (though dropped out)
In 1987, at the age of 33, he was married to Akie Matsuzaki (Abe).
He was linked to the right-leaning political party – Liberal Democratic.
He was the longest serving prime minister. First term – 2006 to 2007,
Second term – 2012 to 2014,
Third term – 2014 to 2017,
Furth term 2017 to 2020.
This year, Abe was awarded with the second highest civilian award - Padma Vibhushan for the "exceptional and distinguished services" in the field of public affairs.
